Wraith Thermometer Position & Water Drain Pipe 26.G.VI. According to daily report of 23.2.38. received from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} who is running 26.G.VI.in France, the thermometer bulb in its front position in the cylinder head fouls the R.R. dis- tributor, which they have had to fit because of failures with the Delco one. This is important since the front position of the bulb and also the R.R. distributor are both being standardised on the first 100 Wraith chassis. We have this same combination fitted here on 27.G.VI. car and although the clearance between the thermometer capillary and the distributor necessitates a fairly sharp bend of the former, this is unimportant since the capillary is rigidly clipped to the cylinder block; we think this arrange- ment satisfactory and do not see how it can easily be improved on. Will you therefore please examine this layout and consider satisfactory issue the necessary instructions etc. for clipping the capillary to the cylinder block etc. Further Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} states that the water drain top pipe has broken due to insufficient clearance in the hole for same in the undershield. We find this difficult to understand in view of the size of this hole, but in any case do not think it necessary to carry the pipe through the hole. When detailing this drain pipe therefore will you please stop it about ½" short of the undershield and instruct that it is correctly located radially with the handle of the drain cock. Instructions should also be issued that packing washers should be used to ensure that the drain cock handle faces directly rearwards so that it is accessible.
