It has for some long time been understood that only the main yards are to be used for vehicular traffic on the Works premises, and particular instructions were issued that the avenues between the test houses should not be used at all, as owing to the noise made by the engines on the beds, it is not possible to hear the approach of any vehicle making use of these avenues. We are dealing with this matter as far as the Test Department employees are concerned, but find that these avenues are used by other Departments in the Works, and also by Midland Railway Lorries, Petrol Lorries and other vehicles coming from outside. Can the necessary arrangements be made please to prevent the use of these avenues. We are of the opinion that 'Safety First' notices should be posted at each end of the avenues in question. EP{G.
