Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 84117 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/MJ.22.7.31. EXHAUST FAILURES ON GXO-69. 87960. We understood from you that this owner had made repeated complaints re the failure of his exhaust system. On looking up the records we find that his exhaust system is to E.54372. With this type of exhaust system we have had repeated failures. Since the GXO. Series the whole exhaust manifold has been altered to overcome failures. The arrangement is now to drawing E.55794. The main alterations incorporated in this system are :- (1) A new exhaust manifold to E.55578. C. and A.{Mr Adams} washers with steel liners. This necessitates fitting a new induction pipe also. (2) A new down-pipe having a altered type of flange and a sliding joint. There is no doubt that the best way to satisfy the customer is to fit these new pieces, if it is considered expedient to do so. The cost of the parts cannot be much greater than sending a mechanic to Scotland to replace the existing manifold etc., by parts of a similar type. The normal method of dealing with failures on the exhaust system is given in the current list of quarterly complaints. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
