X8783 db{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Mr. Brock. EFC2/T13.9.26. RE CHASSIS 50-RC.{R. Childs} DISTRIBUTION BOX. Answering your EY5/H9.9.26, we have re-inspected this distribution box. Though we agree that there is little evidence of the nature that might be expected at the connection in question, we are still of the opinion that considerable heating must have occurred at this point to enable the solder on the underside plate to run. It appears to us improbable that sufficient heat could be generated at the contact points alone to travel down and melt the solder on the bottom plate. There is evidence of considerable heating on the shunt coil wire connection attached to the contact support plate. We agree that there has been heating at the contact points, but the observed resistances at these points do not appear to be abnormal, so it would appear that some of the heating at these points may have come upwards from the plate. The points were mechanically inspected on first receipt and found both to be duly tight. On the other hand we did notice that as received both the small nuts securing the fixed contact point support plate were loose. In any case, we are still of the opinion that as suggested a better connection should be supplied at this point, having previously observed a case which was definitely a faulty connection. We are returning the distribution box to Mr. Brock. EFC. | ||
