BRAKES - SCHEME DES. 60.

We have had a 40/50 car running with brake operation fitted up to the above scheme. The scheme operates excellently. The servo operates equally as well backwards as forwards. This means that the whole of the braking can be done with light pressures. We have made special tests to try and show up the lag in the operation of the servo, but we cannot find any disadvantages. There are one or two slight mechanical defects with this scheme such as - the servo cone clutch tends to stick in but from tests so far we consider the principle of the operation works better than any other we have tried.

We suggest that it is an advantage to have equal braking both forwards and backwards. If we take the case of the Hispano or any semi-servo, although it can be argued that the braking backwards will be equal to the present standard cars, the pressure required to stop the car when going backwards will be very different to the pressure required when going forward. In the case of a lady driver, we think this is a very important point.

Although the Hispano is a wonderfully light car to drive from steering, clutch and braking forwards, it is spoilt by the fact that big pressures are required when going backwards. Therefore, we consider that with the scheme DES. 60. it is a
