Wst. From Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/IL. 6011 Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/IL.21/MJ.30.10.36. REPORT ON A.C. SPECIAL PLUGS WITH R TYPE INTEGRAL FITTINGS (2 OFF). These plugs have been tested on the Kestrel Single Cylinder at 6.5:1 C.R. Initially they ran at T.O. conditions, i.e. 2400 RPM. 210 BMEP. Glycol 130° outlet. The one fitted on the exhaust side failed at 19 hours by the mica coming away inside the fitting. It was returned to the Works for reconditioning. The one on the inlet side ran 34 hours satis-factorily. The second test was a high speed test, i.e. 3000 RPM. 210 BMEP. Glycol 130°C. outlet. Both plugs failed by 2 hours 30 mins. due to faulty mica inside the fitting. -------------------- It is thought that these plugs run slightly cooler than KLG.868's as they show a slight tendency to oil up on starting and warming up the engine.
