Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X5370 BY12/G.21.5.30. 20/25 HP. CHASSIS - STANDARDISATION SHEET FOR COTTON DUCK BRAKE LINING. There are certain points which need clearing up before this sheet should be signed and accepted :- 1/- Was the trial with rivets or with staples. Apparently it was rivets, but we are asked to use staples. If the latter then the standardisation sheet ought to cover the use of staples. 2/- Was the Bijur lubrication fitted to supply oil to the fabric in question, in accordance with N. Sch. 2953/70. 3/- The question of the damper for the servo. In this matter the scheme we have received has Bijur lubrication going direct into the cylinder. It seems to me that we may accumulate in time quite a large quantity of oil in the air damping cylinder which may prevent satisfactory operation of the brake mechanism. 4/- In the same connection it would appear desirable to make the sliding piston in Stainless steel to prevent corrosion occurring. I take it you will be issuing a standardisation sheet for the use of staples for securing the cotton fabric to the servo on the 40/50 HP. chassis. The standard method at present of course is rivets, but this I understand is not satisfactory, and we are ordering up for 'N' series the scheme using staples to secure the cotton duck to the disc.
