X.4225. GOSHAWK 11. OIL LEAKS FROM VALVE GEAR COVERS. X.4226

With regard to the above we feel that we ought to have more information as to how the leak is caused, on which side of the engine the oil actually comes away, and where the oil is thrown about inside the cover. The suggestion is to cut up one of the top covers and run an engine with such a sectioned cover to notice the behaviour of the oil, also as to whether the oil leak is cured by an increased ventilating effect from the carburetter by way of experiment. We have sent through the necessary modifications to ensure the ventilation of the valve gear chamers and also the revised lip on the top cover.
