Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/BWC. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/C.Ratcliffe. The following is a brief summary of the meeting held on the 26th & 27th Inst. (1) SpectreCodename for Phantom III Pistons. It is vitally important that we should push on with the tests to determine whether the liners on the SpectreCodename for Phantom III are the cause of the piston knocks or the pistons themselves. With this object in view, B-2 engine unit is having the timing gears silenced and tests will be made on pistons similar to those at present fitted to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III in France. Matthews is responsible for obtaining the results. (2) SpectreCodename for Phantom III Tappets. Swindall is running tests to determine whether the critical crankshaft or camshaft speeds have anything to do with tappet wear. In the meantime Haydon is responsible for getting two sets of tappets treated by the 'escolize' process, and one by the Rover people. W.C. has promised to supply the necessary quantity of tappets to be sent away. We understand that half a set of each may be expected by the middle of next week for test. (3) SpectreCodename for Phantom III No.2 Car. This car will go down to the track for tests as soon as it is fitted with the correct valve springs. We have instructed the cylinder heads off No.4 unit to be fitted with double valve springs, these then to be transferred to SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2. In the meantime performance tests will be taken on SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2 on Ticknall Hill, etc. Also the speedometer checked and the maximum speeds obtained along the Charlot straight recorded. Dodd is responsible for these figures, also for the ascertaining of whether the overoiling at low speeds disappears when the oil feed to the tappets is cut off. | ||
