Adaptation of Goshawk rear axle brake gear for the 'Kite' model.

We send herewith a print of "N" Scheme 705 shewing the adaptation of the Goshawk rear axle brake gear, which we have recently received from you, to the "Kite". Owing to the difference position of the brakes, and the new method of operation, the design is not quite the same, but we have followed it as closely as possible. As far as the angles of the lever are concerned, in some cases the drivers are not quite at right angles to the line of pull at half-stroke, but it appeared to us that the advantage of the straight lever would perhaps out-weigh this. As far as the arms, brake shoes and operating gear are concerned, it is intended that these should be identical with the Goshawk. We had done some work on this question previous to receiving LcD.1321, and we send you the results merely in order to show you that we had been doing something. "N" Scheme 697 shews a proposal which we do not care for very much, of a screw operated adjustment at the back of the axle. The presence of the petrol tank makes this scheme rather difficult to get at, and it may be considered that there is rather a lot of it. On "N" Scheme 703 we have attempted to imitate the present 40/50 within the confined space available on the Goshawk by cutting away the serrated discs, in one case, the clear the operating shafts.
