RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.6/AP.24.6.37 1320 also 340 REPORT ON TESTS CARRIED OUT ON PH.III. RADIATORS, FANS, ETC. AT BROOKLANDS AND CRICKLEWOOD. Tests outlined in this report were carried out in order to improve (a) cooling of the car under idling and stationary conditions e.g. in dense traffic. (b) Cooling of the car under full throttle conditions - either at Maximum speeds or at speeds of 30 - 40 M.P.H. such as might be experienced under hill climbing conditions. (c) Under bonnet temperature conditions. Part I. of the report deals with (a) above, while Part II. deals with (b) and (c). PART I. In an endeavour to improve the cooling of the Ph.III. under stationary idling conditions, the following schemes were tested- (1) Standard car. (2) Standard car except for fan ring surrounding fan to improve air flow. (3) Effect of opening bonnet shutters. (4) Effect of fitting louvred bonnet. (5) Improved five blade fan running at .9 x engine speed. (6) " " " " " " 1.0 x " " (7) " " " " " " 1.11 x " " (Twin belt drive) (8) " " " " " " 1.20 x " " (Triple belt drive) (9) A Mk.VI. matrix using lightened construction i.e. .005" tinned waterway strip and .005" untinned airway strip. (10) A Harrison made matrix (18 x 62 type of core) (11) A Gallay radiator matrix. continued | ||
