The problem of lubricators on the rear universal of the 20 HP model being knocked off by coachbuilders, with proposed solutions.

RE. LUBRICATOR ON REAR UNIVERSAL.

Apparently considerable trouble is being experienced at the coachbuilders by these lubricators being knocked off through fouling the heel board or floorboard as the case may be.

We have shewn on the coachwork print a means of clear-ing these by the use of sheet metal plates, but even then the clearances are very fine, and in our opinion too fine to expect the coachbuilders to work to.

Many cases have been related to us of cars being found at the coachbuilders with their lubricators knocked off, and of how the coachbuilder removes the sweated-in portion in order to screw in a fresh one. A case in point is a man who bought a 20 HP. from an agent in Bexhill, the body being built at Hooper's and passed out by our inspectors as O.K. On arrival at the Agents' the lubricator was missing and they wrote for another one. This car ran for over a month before the lubricator was fitted. All that while the joint instead of being lubricated was being centrifugally dried.

One method of treatment would seem to be to fit the lubricator in another place, say on the propeller shaft and lead the oil into the joint by a piece of copper tube inserted therein.
