In order to allow the maximum performance from this car, we have either got to have a duplex exhaust system or a cut-out. The cut-out will be cheaper and lighter. Also we may not be able to get the duplex exhaust system quiet with a common manifold. Our initial experiments are, therefore, directed to getting the most efficient cut-out. Up to date, a duplex downtake seems worth while. Experiments are continuing, however. We do not want any design work to be done until we have completed our tests.
