(2) Ref. Minute (2) of 24/2/20 Armoured Cars, and BJ(Py)/2/D526.2.20.

The Committee, after discussing the above note from (Py) to Mr. and having again studied the contract, are rather bewildered. They understand that we are asked to deliver as many standard chassis (without modifications) up to 100, as they can, within two months from date of contract.

The Committee consider this to be impracticable for the following reasons -

(1) We have not sufficient room to house 100 standard chassis (over and above the number for the time being on production) while the modifications are being carried out, therefore in our view it is essential that we should not modify standard chassis but build modified chassis from the beginning, so that as they are finished they would leave the premises quickly. This is essential.

(2) Also from a financial point of view we should do much better, seeing that no profit is to be charged on the modifications.

(3) It would appear to be an unnecessary waste of money to erect a standard chassis and then dismantle for modifications.

(4) Some of the modifications are such that we could not deliver any completely modified chassis within the two months, and the Committee feel that the War Office should not have had the power as described in para. 14 of contract.
