Mr Mills.

Re Mr Radley's request to fit an engine revolution counter, please note there is no convenient place on the engine where this could be carried out.

I have raised the matter with Mr Royce and he considers that a better plan would be to assign a colour, red, white, blue and green to each speed in the gear box and then divide the speedometer dial into coloured sections, the colours to correspond to the gears most advantageous to use.

This system is to be carried into practice on our own Austrian Trials cars, and has an advantage over Mr Radley's scheme insofar that the driver is not called upon to watch an additional instrument and can see at a glance which speed of the gear box he should be using.

Should Mr Radley not agree to the above the only alternative is to drive the engine revolution counter from the dynamo drive pulley in front of the gear box which somewhat limits its sphere of usefulness.

I trust you will obtain his decision and arrange matters at Derby accordingly.
