Tests of servo linings made from R.A.D.13 material, detailing brake efficiency issues caused by oil contamination.

| X 141 FILES. 6.3.33. SERVO LININGS IN R.A.D.13 MATERIAL. We have carried out tests on 4.PER.II on brake efficiency, the servo being fitted with this material. The brakes are very good until oil got on the fabrics when the efficiency dropped very considerably. On scraping the linings clean and reassembling the servo after washing in petrol the brakes were again good for about 30 miles but slowly lost efficiency. The Bijur supply had been disconnected. On examining the servo the fabrics were again oily but every other part of the servo quite dry; proving that the fabrics had sweated oil. New linings again provided excellent brakes no ironing being employed at all. This seems to show that the least oil is very deleterious to RAD.13 material, and that cleaning the surfaces effects only the most temporary improvement.
