RE BODY DESIGN PROGRAMME. We think that we are now in a position to define a body design programme which will keep us busy for the next few months. BENTLEY V.{VIENNA} We have now taken the 18 and 14 H.P. engines out of the B.V. and put them in the Myth. This fact, coupled with the financial stringency which is likely to eventuate at the cessation of hostilities, suggests that it would be impolitic to spend time and energy drawing out the B.V. body for the Pressed Steel Company to manufacture. It therefore seems reasonably certain that Ward will have to carry on with the B.V. body with the tools he has got. Our energy on this body will have to be concentrated on getting him to make the best possible job of the body with the facilities at his disposal. The coupe he has already mafr on the B.V. is, of course, entirely unsatisfactory, and we have done experiments which show this can be put right. Drawings are definitely required showing a practical way of adding this stiffness to the B.V. scuttle. We consider that this is a job that we shall have to do at Derby, and it should be number one spare time job when, for any reason, work is held up on the Myth. 11' 1" SHEEL BASE BODIES. We outlined the programme in Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}9/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}24.9.40. These bodies are really Ward's responsibility. All we want to do is to indicate how we think they ought to be rationalised without drawing any details. This again is a spare time job. MYTH. We have to draw a 4-light and 6-light Myth to suit Rolls-Royce and Silver Dawn radiators, and to be mounted on rubber on the frame which has already been designed. We shall have to re-draw these bodies, converting them to monocoque construction with the minimum tool alteration, as this change | ||
