58-GN. CAR.

The above car was returned to you today. The points we are interested to get your opinion on are:-

(1) Marles Weller Type Steering. - This steering is fitted up without any springs in the side steering tube. In comparing this steering it should of course be compared with a car with low rated springs and one which has done some mileage.

(2) Semi Expanding Carburetter. The semi expanding carburetter and starter carburetter on 58-GN. is a model of what production will be like. The only difference is that 58-GN is fitted with an air silencer. This silencer is the type which we expect to standardise after the first 50 in 'O' Series.

(3) Exhaust System. We are rather concerned with the decision to use the standard silencer on all cars except Continental type because with the increased power of the compression ratio, camshaft, and carburetter we get still further back pressure in the silencer, which is bad for exhaust valves etc. On 58-GN. we have a standard resonance silencer and have made modifications to the front portion in the pipe which we think greatly reduces the noise you complained of. We should be glad if you would give us your opinion on this because we think it is an important point.

(4) We have also fitted to the car a dynamo with the voltage regulator. We should be interested to hear how this goes on.
