Smith} ' SHOCK DAMPER SPRINGS. N.SCH.2035. The 'SS {S. Smith} ' axle control damper has been arranged so that the spring pressure over the valves can be adjusted without difficulty and these dampers are intended to be adjustable to suit the requirements of different customers. In the past we have varied the springs to vary the load. This is an unsatisfactory method because it is not feasible to mark on the spring the ball end load it will give. Also once the spring is in the damper any label attached to it must be removed, and on wishing to alter the load though the spring is extracted from the damper, it is not easy for the uninitiated to identify it even should the drawing be available. We therefore think that the simplest method is to make all load adjustments by means of washers, clearly marked as to their thickness, under the valve cap. In order to ensure that any fixed spring will produce a given load in any damper, it is essential that the dimensions marked S. and L. on the attached sketch should have limits that will fix the spring length to ± .003. We suggest that spring F.54807 should be used for both high and low pressure valves on all front axle control dampers. For riding comfort the ball end load required from these valves will not exceed 100 lbs. now that we have dynamic restrictions incorporated in the damper. contd :- | ||
