To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X30001 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/KW.21.5.35. No.3 SpectreCodename for Phantom III - 10,000 Miles in France. As discussed verbally, it has now been decided to send No.3 SpectreCodename for Phantom III to France instead of No.2, the front suspension of No.3 being more up-to-date. We are therefore handing this car over to you, the modifications required being :- (1) 5" deflection front springs. (2) 7" deflection rear springs. (3) The engine suspension as on No.1 but with harder rubbers. (4) Intake and exhaust silencers as on No.1 car. (5) Phantom type brake adjustment. (6) Pedals with increased travel. (7) Front roll rod as on SpectreCodename for Phantom III 2 but with lubrication. (8) Shock damper bellows brought up to date. (9) Yoke piece and buffers to N.Sch.4478. (10) No. 5 SpectreCodename for Phantom III unit with short duration camshaft. (11) The best type of tappet of those now on test. Complete details of the suspension are given in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.1/KW.14.5.35. The Marles steering so far seems to be satisfactory on this car except that it is slightly tight in the central position. We shall be glad if you will rectify this. We will hand No.5 unit over to you as soon as we have completed tests on the roller tappets. | ||
