Side and Cross Steering Tube
applicable to Bentley & 20/25.

The assembly of side and cross steering tube ends as units is not "foolproof". Recently on B-56-BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} we found -

1. The locating washer sheared on to the Ball End Pin out of position, due to the shrouded condition, also there is no positive guide for locating washer.

Herewith drawing showing the difficulties of assembly of pin and suggest the condition be reversed with locating lugs on large end of taper on ball end pins and split pin in place of lock washer.

2. The contact pieces on sleeve joint were assembled 180°C. out of position - suggest that GB.1420 contact piece, GB.1056 contact piece, FB.1430 sleeve, which have locating lug and cannot be assembled incorrectly, should be introduced. Pieces of similar nature have been instructed experimentally and remove the fault referred to, and are therefore recommended to overcome the troubles experienced.
