Specification for an exhaust system to be fitted to a 3-B-IV car for a 15,000-mile test in France.

Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}13/JH.4.6.37. 3-B-IV Exhaust System. Herewith specification of the exhaust system we would like fitting to 3-B-IV car for the next 15,000 miles test in France. (1) Standard exhaust manifold. (2) Downtake pipe, front expansion box and front intermediate pipe in mild steel nickel plated inside and outside. (3) Standard rear intermediate pipe. (4) Rear silencer in standard material but deleting EB.877 and EB.881 pipes and centre baffle and fitting straight through perforated tube. This silencer to be lagged similar to front silencer. (5) Tail pipe to be made with inner pipe in perforated tubing 1.750" dia. with an outer tubing of 16 S.W.G. mild steel 2.750" dia. the area between the tubes to be filled with glass silk, and end covers welded in position. The rear 6 inches of this pipe should be nickel plated. (6) The flanges EB.768/9 should be deleted and the pipes fitted together by means of a sliding joint and clip as shown on LeC.5376. The whole system should be mounted on a rubber suspension similar to the Wraith scheme for which design are at present preparing a scheme. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/.G.H.Whyman. | ||
