It should be remembered that our range of 58º
is rather difficult to produce satisfactorily electrically -
in fact several makers will not attempt it.
In regard to the electrical principles, we are
going into this matter thoroughly and have in preparation
a report and some conclusions which we are also proposing
to send to Messrs. North.
We agree with your recommendation of the bakelite
wheel and steel pinion and that the Watford make and break
is better than previously. It has been very difficult to
get them to make continuous cams, but they have done so at
last and we have four further machines so fitted for test.
For reasons stated earlier in this note, we think
we as a firm are relatively rather exacting, though we do
not think we have confused Messrs. North. We do not see any
reason for supposing that Watfords have become more
inefficient than previously - it has always been very
difficult to get them to follow our recommendations.
Another report was in preparation when your
RL/M16.4.28 arrived, dealing with the various possibilities
of other makes.
