X7410 C. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} BY/HEB{H. Biraben}2/M;10:2.27. RECEIVED R.R. LTD. 24 FEB 1927 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.A.C.7. CHASSIS. FRAMES AND FITTINGS SEC:7000. FRONT SPRINGS AND FITTINGS SEC: 7020. As required in memo' Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LG4.2.27. we have investigated the question of fitting the Phantom unequal centred springs to E.A.C.7. Chassis, and we find that it will be quite a simple matter to fit these springs without entailing any alterations to the front end of the frame, other than replacing 4 of the 5 rivets in the existing Dumb Iron, with oversize 3/8" Bolts. We have prepared the following drawings which will enable you to produce all the parts necessary to affect the changeover and we attach herewith one print of each:- F.76598 Bolt for Auxiliary Front Dumb Iron(Front) 2 off. F.76599 " " " " (Rear) 2 " F.76600 " " " " (Side) 4 " F.76601 Auxiliary Front Dumb Iron O.S. 1 " F.76602 " " " " N.S. 1 " F.76620 Packing for Front Spring. 2 " F.76621 Arrgt. of Auxiliary Dumb Iron. The new Packing for Front Spring is required owing to the fact that a line drawn through the front and rear eyes of the unequal spring produces an angle of 1 1/2° below the horizontal as against an angle of 2 1/2° on the present 45" Springs, this being due to the difference in loaded cambers. Therefore to retain the 1° inclination of pivots, a tapered packing is necessary for use with the present axle which has its' pads machined at 1 1/2°. The Buffer clearances are unaltered as the position of axle relative to frame is unaltered. BY/HEB.{H. Biraben} | ||
