(2) your D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} sch. 105., where we think they will be accessible without dismantling the brush holders and end connections, and use the other 4 screws as close up to the 2 arms as possible. This will attach the end cover securely adjacent to the arms where it is most required (3) We usually realise in making designs that the Production and Dept. may require small modifications/should the sch. become standard it appears quite simple to make die castings with slight modifications. (4) The terminal positions were fixed up by R.{Sir Henry Royce} and myself, realising there were some disadvantages. (5) This seems to me the most important feature of all those mentioned, and the position of the plug hole shewn on the drawing appeared accessible on the car we had here. If you can possibly suggest any position which is likely to be of comparatively easy access we should be very glad to know of it, and you will no doubt be able to form a better opinion from an actual car than we can here with drawings only, (as the car has since been removed.) This is an important item, and any information you can give us we shall be extremely glad to have. (6) R.{Sir Henry Royce} realised the difficulties of taking down the starter motor etc. He considered that in view of the very rare occasions when it should be necessary to do this it was worth while locating the unit in the position we have done, but we would point out that it is possible we may eventually use this starter motor sch. alongside the new gearbox, in which case some of the objections made would be removed. Our main desire at the moment is to determine whether the new arrangement will function silently. The foregoing is intended to reply to EFC3/T4227. AJS. | ||
