FRONT BRAKE ADJUSTMENT.

DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} is sending through particulars of a simple modification to make this adjustment better to handle. It consists of lengthening the brake camshaft by about 3/8" to give room for a control hexagon, (same size as locking nut) on this shaft, for use while engaging the adjusting teeth.

We have also treated the countershaft lever fixings differently so that the construction is easier to make and understand, and more robust.

SERVO. Until we hear to the contrary we are assuming that the large dia. cam 45° will give your multiplication of .8, and real servo torque of 1.25, which with the front cams of .5 centres instead of .4 will give the desired proportion of braking.

It is absolutely imperative to at once get on the 25% stiffer front springs and less vigorous brakes both front and rear; these very effective brakes requiring only gentle foot pressure are dangerous, as also is a large percentage of front wheel braking.

Never mind the theoretical variations: we want the most effective direct braking possible for close shunting, and we must have on India especially a very moderate percentage of front wheel braking.

I trust my repeating these urgent requirements will not annoy you, but I must strive to get what we think right as quickly as possible. Often we do not know what to do, but when we do we are forced to urge a rapid move towards it.
