To BJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to C. c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to CWB. X7410 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG27.7.28. SPRINGING. V8410 X5410 Replying to BJ6/E25.7.28. The question of tests on springing is receiving our urgent attention and we intend to visit WW. immediately after the holidays to discuss with R.{Sir Henry Royce} the results of the tests. In the meantime we have sent to CWB. some springs which will enable them to alter the shock absorbers as recommended by R.{Sir Henry Royce} We hope that they will have an opportunity of trying this on a Trials car whilst the Works are closed. The difficulty in carrying out tests with springing is to cover the wide range of conditions. It was not long ago when the chief criticism was instability at high speed; now, the chief complaint seems to be jolting at low speeds. We can, by compromising, generally improve one condition, but we hold very little hope that the tests which we have in hand are going to overcome all the complaints of the Phantom springing. We have had enough experience with tests in connection with springing and suspension to know how difficult it is to prove whether an alteration is an improvement or not; no two investigators views ever agree. We should like in confirmed by Sales that we have approx. 20 springing complaints on the Phantom to one on the 20 HP. This then would give us something to work on. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
