January, 1936. Messrs Rolls Royce, Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, Ref: Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Les/JH. Experimental Dept. We beg to thank you for your letter of the 16th. inst. regarding our 'H' type shock absorber. We would say that in general design our absorber follows other designs of a similar type, but careful attention has been paid to ease and cheapness of machining and assembly. We have provisionally covered two points of the absorber, namely, the valving mechanism and also the gland, but as these patents are still in their provisional stage, and also in view of the fact that slight modifications may be carried out to both parts, we would prefer to go into the matter of the absorber with you at a later date. For the time being therefore, we would ask you to excuse us from sending you particulars. Yours faithfully, p.p. NEWTON & BENNETT, LTD. Noel. B. Newton. Managing Director.
