BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Y7310 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/LG12.11.28. 'SS{S. Smith}' TIMING GEAR LUBRICATION. X411 We have had trouble with oil leaking out at the back of the fan pulley due to excessive oil spray on the timing gears. It will be remembered similar trouble was experienced on the earlier Phantoms which was successfully overcome by reducing the oil feed. This has been overcome in a similar way on the 'SS{S. Smith}' engine by reducing the nozzle of the pipe spraying the gears to .125 dia. instead of the original .187 dia. The feed pipe will then be slightly larger than on the Phantom. We suggest this modification is applied to further 'SS{S. Smith}' engines. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
