To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL PISTONS - SCRAPER RINGS. Y4224 We have carried out tests as you suggested and have proved that the advantage in the bevel ring is due to the increase in pressure per unit area. We get the same results as regards reducing the oiling whether the ring is the other way up or whether we chamfer each edge of the ring. We think there may be a slight advantage in the way we use it at present in the gas-tightness of the piston because we avoid any annulus on the pressure side of the rings.
