OUR REF. 4/2/G

13th August, 1934.

Dear Sir,

British Standards Institution.

It has been pointed out to the Society that on occasion comments made by members of a Technical Committee of the Society on draft B.S.I. Specifications sometimes clash with the views which have already been expressed by the Society's representatives on the various Committees. It is desirable that such opposition of views should not exist or at least should not appear outside the Society and I am writing to ask for your co-operation in overcoming this this difficulty.

The suggestion our Technical Committee make is that, whenever proposals are made to B.S.I. Technical Committee to draw up a new B.S.I. Specification it would be a good thing if the Society's representatives on the particular committee were to send to the Society a brief outline of their views on the specification and an expression of their opinion as to whether or not the specification is really necessary. We could then refer the matter to the members of the Technical Committee and get their opinion which could be passed privately to the Society's representatives on the B.S.I. Committees. The Society's representatives would then be in possession of the Technical Committee's general views and it is felt that this would guide them in further discussions on the B.S.I. Technical Committees and would, we hope, eliminate any clashing of points of view and would also create unanimity in the Society's expressions of opinion.

We would be glad to hear from you on this point and we would be glad to receive any other suggestions which you may like to send in regarding the best method of tackling the difficulty mentioned above.

Yours faithfully,

H.R.B Gillman. [Signature]

Secretary.

To Representatives on B.S.I. Technical Committees.
