For several years I have endeavoured on all cars which have a lighting equipment, to connect the ignition on to the lighting batterym and have had my own car always fitted up in this way. We have also made a six-volt coil, and passed a long time ago, so that it could be connected to half the twelve-volt battery. It was discovered, however, that under certain circumstances of earthed connections, the engine could be started by switching on the lights. Personally, I do not care whether it could or not, but it would soon teach them to keep the wires of lamps not in use clear of the metal part of the car. To make the matter quite safe, however, we decided to take the earth connection off the switch, so that when the switch on the steering column was shut off, the engine was just a little bit saferto handle. This has now been done, but I am not sure that it has been fitted up on any car. It can be used, however, without fear of disappointment. I think we had better ask that 49-GB be so fitted up before it comes out for its trial, and we have so far only a rather temporary switch for the two-way switch for using both halves of the accumulator. This also reverses the current in the trembler, which is desirable. I will get this improved. This matter, however, has never met with very much enthusiasm at the works, and at the same time, perhaps | ||
