STEEL BRAKE SHOES.

With reference to the attached report.

The Expl. Dept. originally asked for steel brake shoes but now that we have had experience with them we think they are a doubtful improvement. The heat treatment of the Aluminium shoe is a very definite improvement and should reduce considerably our criticism against this type of brake shoe. For the time being therefore, we are looking forward to carrying on with the Aluminium brake shoes and treating steel shoes purely as future development.
