X4165 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. EFC1/T23.8.23. RE PATIALA. X.3014a. X.4165. INADEQUACY OF CHARGE AT LOW SPEEDS. Answering your Ey12/P15.8.23, I have now seen Mr. Wheeler and discussed this matter with him, and he considers the suggestion of sending in the first instance the large Lucas dynamo and larger battery to be tried on one of the cars, to be in the circumstances a particularly good one, as he says it is important that Patiala should see we are doing something in the matter as soon as possible. We are agreed that it will be necessary with this larger dynamo to provide a larger battery and Mr. Wheeler says he would see that this battery be properly installed on the footboard. It would seem advisable, therefore to instruct the Exide Company to have ready at their Bombay station a battery one size larger than the present standard, namely their 6EXRE6, or alternatively their 6XHRE, of which we recently had a sample - whichever battery is more convenient to them to supply, would apparently meet the case. Presumably we ought also to supply a box. We will look out the dynamo and see that this is complete and in working order, and will let you know immediately it is ready, and await instructions for despatch. As regards the suspension of this machine, we have a design for this. It is probable that a suitable pulley will have to be made, the dimensions of which to agree with the 1.4 : 1 ratio we can easily give to one of your men at any moment, as we did for Denshaw and Sorabjee. We think it will be found that this other machine will probably meet the case, in which case we can obtain a number of other similar machines from Messrs. Lucas. It might be advisable to send an enquiry as to how they would be placed as regards manufacturing a number of these that would be required, should this one prove to be satisfactory. If there is anything else we can do in the matter beyond getting the machine ready for despatch instructions, kindly let us know. I return correspondence herewith, having taken copies of the essential parts. Perhaps you will reply to Sales indicating what we propose to do. F- | ||
