-3- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.2/KW.5.6.34. In order to check the operation of each individual damper it is necessary to fix the damper to a bench with a variable pressure system connected to the control end of the damper. The Exptl. Dept. have found that a grease gun filled with damper oil connected to the damper via an oil gauge is quite satisfactory. In order to check the maximum ball pin load it is necessary to put an extension on to the ordinary damper lever, giving a leverage of approximately 4 to 1 for a front damper and 3 to 1 for a rear damper. When checking the load of dampers with the extended leverage it must be remembered to subtract the weight of the lever from the figure shown on the spring balance.
