Phantom III Front Suspension Springs.

We have been running bumper Tests using 3" cams on the drums to ascertain the comparative life of springs produced by various manufacturers. From these tests the life of the English Steel Corporation spring is at least twice that of Salter's or Firth's springs.

The attached photographs show the recent failures on No. 2 bumper chassis. The springs being the same piece No. and make as now used on production.

Although no spring failure has ever occurred on the road, certain springs have had a shorter life on the bumpers than the lever which failed on the first Ph.III in France.

We recommend that we should change over to English Steel Corporation Springs, which are fitted to 22-EX for France.
