To BJ. from Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Copy to Mor. RE STANDARDISATION SHEET X. 802 - GLOVERS' WIRE. With reference to BJ3/DB{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}41219, as we are anxious to bring in Mr. Royce's scheme for wiring as soon as possible after it has been proved and agreed to, we have ordered Glovers' Cable for the present scheme in the minimum quantities which will avoid delay in production. It must be appreciated that in obtaining Cable it is necessary to act a long way ahead, and in the case of a new type cable, two or three months is required for delivery. We are only able to reduce the time to this amount by our relations with Messrs. Glovers and the influence which can be brought to bear. If we dealt elsewhere the time required would be five to six months. I want you to appreciate the effect of having to look ahead in this way as regards the number of cars which are consequently affected. For example, as regards cable, five hundred sets have already been delivered, orders were placed some time ago for the second five hundred, and these are in hand and delivery expected shortly. In January or February of next year we shall have to order up wire for the second 1000. chassis. We do not know yet whether we can perfect and prove the new scheme by this date in order that it may be substituted on the second thousand in lieu of the present Glovers' Cable. Bn.{W.O.
