1044 600 GRY{Shadwell Grylls} Parts marked should have been brought up by testing side Clm{D. D. Clapham} S.P.Ex. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RHD. Dg. E/L.146.2/HP.11.1.37. Wraith - 1st Chassis. The following points have been raised during the erection of the first Wraith II chassis and are being dealt with as follows:- (1) Packings between frame and rear dumb iron forgings not considered necessary. These have been dispensed with in the latest scheme of rear dumb iron Lec.5442 - all future chassis should have this latest scheme. (2) Rear spring front anchorage brackets - Lec.5145. It was suggested that it might be possible to dispense with the stiffening plates welded to the sides of the frame; owing to the thin section of the side member wall, design department does not consider it advisable to dispense with these. (3) Suggestion to delete the third (1/4" dia) bolt in body bracket and step iron - Lec.5144. This is necessary to retain the body bracket to the frame when the step iron is dismantled and cannot therefore be deleted. (4) Suggestion to delete stiffening brackets on the frame behind the rear brake intermediate brackets. These are considered necessary owing to the loads imposed on the frame by brake application and should be retained. It is agreed however that a test should be carried out at a later date to ascertain the effect of leaving them off. (5) Alternative methods of producing body brackets as shewn on Lec.5144. Cost Department has been requested to estimate the cost of the two schemes so that we can use the least expensive one. (6) Brake straps. Design sod will be instructed providing for bifurcated rivets. | ||
