ORIGINAL FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to C. W. RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} PEREGRINE. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M1.9.32. K4037 Herewith we send N. scheme 3530., showing the supplementary transmission shaft between the gearbox and the differential brake cross member, arranged with the object of, reducing the length of the propeller shaft. It will be noticed that we have altered the bolting between the rear nose piece on the gearbox and the box, but fuller particulars will be sent you from ElmsteadHenry Royce's home in West Wittering. The 3rd. motion shaft is somewhat shortened, but otherwise the gearbox is unaltered, also the existing sheet metal cross member is used, and the existing universal joints. It is intended that the propeller shaft should be 2.750" O.D., but we think it would be worth while trying a 2.250" parallel shaft for the sake of economy and truth in the shaft, as with the very short length now obtained the whirling speed would be well above the speed of the car.
