Messrs. Ferodo Ltd.,
CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH.

For the attention of Mr. W.E.Shilton.

Dear Sirs,

The writer and Mr. Dixon were very pleased to see your new brake test rig in operation last Tuesday, we had no idea that you had started to make one.

Even in its original form the results obtained are very interesting and when the various modifications are carried out it should be an exceptionally useful rig. It would seem that the additional brake for equalizing acceleration and braking times ought not to rub on the same path as the test specimens, otherwise four samples will have to be prepared each time instead of two, further by keeping the additional brake in one form, the braking time will be kept more nearly constant.

We confirm that we will lend you a tenth second 12 volt contact breaker for the duration of our tests, and that we will send you three cast iron discs, which need not be returned.

When the rig is running again it will be necessary to arrange a series of tests on each lining to be examined which will give its characteristics under all conditions which can be achieved on the road. We generally find that an important part of such tests is standing idle. This unfortunately prolongs the time taken to test each lining, although it does not take up any more of the operator's time.
