x1159 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.10/JH. 3rd September, 1936. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons Ltd., Cricklewood Works, LONDON. S.W.2. Dear Sirs, Referring to your letter of the 20th August, we have tested the oil filters which you supplied on loan, and which we are returning herewith. As we explained to your representative who visited us, the use for which we were considering this filter was that of cleaning the oil supply to our rocker gear. We are not prepared to use your type of filter for our main oil filtration, since it cannot be put in circuit with the direct oil supply to the bearings. Unfortunately your filter will not pass sufficient oil for our rocker gear requirements, and in any case is bulky compared with our present filter. Further, the filter which was tested on a car for main oil filtration, while it certainly cleaned the oil passing through it, did not maintain the sump oil in a clean condition over a distance of several thousand miles. We therefore regret that the above reasons prevent us from proceeding any further with your type of filter. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
