To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} cl to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} Dal/EF7.1.20. RE CAST IRON PISTON. (For Short Con: Rods) We have made a detail of a Cast Iron Piston suitable for the short connecting rods, and send herewith a print of N.3080. This piston is designed on the lines of E.4237 which is a Cast Iron Piston said to be most successful before the War. The modification consists in fitting narrow rings, dropping the Gudgeon Pin to suit the short rod, removing the boss for the stiffener rim and fitting a split on the non-pressure side. In order to test Cast Iron Pistons we took the existing casting of E.4237 and modified that, as sewn on N.2965 of which we also enclose a print. The modification here consists of fitting narrow rims and splitting. Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Stt.
