OUR REF. JNL/IS. A.{Mr Adams} F; Martindale Esq., Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr Martindale, I thank you for your letter of August 12th, asking for low coefficient of friction F.B.A. type lining with a zinc bonding - enough for four 20/25 h.p. cars. This material is actually present day Ferodo B.Z., and as it is one of our standards, it does not have a special number. I have been making careful examination of the coefficient of friction of this material under all possible conditions, i.e. possible of reproduction here on our test plant, and find that in no case is it higher than .355, and in no case lower than .318 throughout the temperature range, speed range and usual unit pressure range. We have also been endeavouring to cause it to squeal but have been unable to produce even the faintest noise. With this encouragement I have now let your letter go forward as an order to the mill to produce the quantities requested. Yours very truly, Longley | ||
