1269. To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/AP.1.4.38 Ph.III. WATER PUMP TESTS ON TEST RIG. In connection with the tests which we are carrying out on Ph.III. and Wraith water pumps, will you please build up the pump which has just been removed from the engine for examination, using standard pieces and fitting a new rotor shaft, bearings and thrust button. Will you please note carefully all clearances etc. so that these can be checked after running. Will you also please supply a new coupling piece to to replace the one which was worn in the last test. Will you also please build up for test a pump using the standard casing modified to EXS.579 (which we supplied to you) a standard pump cover, new rotor shaft modified to EXS.633 and standard outer bearing bush, Tufnol bearing bush to EXS.552 and distance piece to EXS.555, rotor end piece to EXS.634 and thrust screw to EXS.635 (as per SCD.589). The experiments are urgent in view of troubles which are being experienced on Ph.III. in service and which to some extent apply equally to Wraith. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
