Re Improved Throttles with spring-seated Valves. S.852. R.{Sir Henry Royce} 25-5-14. In reply to Rl/P 20.5.14., the only Throttle with a spring seated valve that we have had on test or has been instructed is fitted to one of the now obsolete small type throttles. It was pointed out at the time that it was not a proper test to fit it to a throttle which we had never had any trouble with the valve being damaged, in fact one which we cannot damage the valve; it is only with the present improved type with the chamber in front of the piston that it has happened. We fitted the throttle to a car and it has run about 500 or 600 miles, there is no noticeable difference over the standard solid valve for explosions in silencer. I have not spent much time on it because it is obsolete and the present type with the aluminium plug is giving satisfaction. X1025 | ||
