Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards}4/JH.

8th. August, 1939.

The British Thermostat Co.Ltd.,
Windmill Road,
Sunbury-on-Thames,
MIDDLESEX.

For the attention of Mr. K.M. Petter.

Dear Sirs,

We must apologise for tae delay in answering yours of the 26th. ult. but the writer has only just returned from holiday.

Unfortunately tests on the two valves sent us have not proved altogether satisfactory, the principle fault being that the lag in the bellows, allows a certain vacuum to develop before the thermostat operates, with the result that the valve is held on its seat, thus allowing a very considerable vacuum to form. The effect of this is cumulative and negatives the value of the valve as an air vent.

Our Mr. Edwards will be in London on Tuesday next week and would like to call on you to discuss this matter at about 3.00 p.m. We suggest that if some alternative scheme could be prepared in the meantime it would form a useful basis for discussion.

If the above date is suitabbe we should be glad if you would let us know as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
