on English roads at moderate speeds.

Owing to the unreliability of comparisons with accelerometers, we have reverted to the water test which continues to confirm our physical sensations. We find that the riding in the front of the car is very much better than that in the rear, so much so that the containers we used in the back are not sufficiently sensitive to lose enough water for comparisons. We have therefore altered their dimensions and evolved a new standard for the front of the car. It will be observed that about 80 c.c. lost in the new test is equivalent to about 10 c.c. lost in the previous tests. On the measured riding comfort chart we have inserted a line indicating the figure obtained when the new containers were used in the back of the 20 HP.

All the cars used in these tests had their springs thoroughly well lubricated which probably makes the average riding comfort obtained somewhat above the average.

It will be observed as a result of these tests that the riding in the front of a 40/50 is very much better than at the back, the standard car being but little worse than the back of the 20 HP. We carried out the test at the same speed and under the same road conditions as previously, because the only definite complaint that we have investigated with regard to poor riding in the front seats was mainly concerned with these conditions.
