Mr. SWOL BENTLEY - APPLETON - B.84-FE. Further to BY.20/G.20.5.38. it is evident that the whole cause of the trouble is unreasonable handling, there is no question of a fault peculiar to one engine, which I contend cannot exist, as the last escapade was with a replacement engine. In the engine returned to Derby our pistons had picked up, and this despite the fact that we provide an oil spray to spray oil on the load side of the piston from a hole in the connecting rod. I imagine the owner drives full out from the moment he starts the engine until he 'dumps' the car in the garage again, this gives every opportunity for oil to drain off the walls due to the heated state of the oil, and gives no chance for it to be replaced on the wall when he restarts next day by some light running. I have every sympathy with the engine in this case, but none for the driver, he lacks imagination, and were he a rider would 'kill' any horse. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} By | ||
