Re. CORROSION OF CARBURETTER FLOATS.

With reference to our discussion on the above, I have to report that we are receiving complaints of the carburetter floats now being used on our cars even in this country, corroding to such an extent that the deposit from the float gets into the jets, causing engine failures.

I am sending you a sample float which has this trouble. From information received the customer returning this float is emphatic that nothing but Sheel No.1. Spirit has been used since he had the car (post-war-car).

You will notice that the copper has been attacked, whereas the brass and spindle portions have not been affected in any way.

This weakness confirms the general failure which is now taking place on our cars in America, and which I have previously report

It is necessary that some action should be taken at once, and although consideration is being given to use floats of a different material, will you please instruct that your suggestion of the float being nickle-plated be carried out immediately.

Will Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} also please consider a report recommending the standardising of some definite alteration in this respect.
