X550 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}6/KW.6.7.36. To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} 25 HP. Steering. We have recently received from the Adamant Engineering Co. three of the new roller followers to F.61239 with the reduced radius of ball track. These are the pieces which have been standardised and are being changed on all 25/30 chassis. The new radius of the ball track should be 0.130 + 1/2, as specified on the drawings. We find that, in the case of one of the roller followers sent to us, it is not possible to rock a 0.250" ball in the race tracks so that the radius must be less than 0.125". In view of this we consider that it is very important that the pieces now being fitted on production should be inspected carefully in this respect. We doubt whether the Adamant Co. can be relied upon to maintain the degree of accuracy required on this ball bearing, and, if we are to continue to use the present type of bearing, we should make every effort to have it produced by a ball bearing manufacturer as soon as possible. We are in touch with Messrs. Ransome & Marles in this matter. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy. | ||
